Statement of Antonio López-Istúriz following the agreement signed by Israel and the United Arab Emirates
Brussels, 15 September 2020
The Abraham Accord is concrete proof of effective diplomacy and a positive step towards peace and prosperity in the region. It is a landmark agreement between two important partners for the European Union and I am convinced that it will pave the way for peace in the Middle East, becoming a fundamental element of stabilisation and unlocking the potential of the region as a whole.
I truly hope this will lead to the normalisation of relations between Israel and other countries in the Arab Peninsula and Muslim world. In the last few days, we have already seen that more countries are signalling their interest and willingness to replicate it.
As the EU is committed to comprehensive and lasting peace in the region, it must play a leading role in this process.
Israel and the UAE both have dynamic societies and economies that will boost the economic growth of the region, enhancing technological innovation and forging closer relations between peoples.
Declaraciones de Antonio López-Istúriz tras el acuerdo firmado por Israel y los Emiratos Árabes Unidos
El Acuerdo firmado hoy entre Israel y los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Acuerdos de Abraham, son una prueba concreta de diplomacia y un paso positivo hacia la paz y prosperidad en la región. Se trata de un acuerdo histórico entre dos socios importantes para la Unión Europea y estoy convencido de que preparará el camino para la paz en Oriente Próximo, convirtiéndose en un elemento fundamental de estabilización y desbloqueando el potencial de toda la región.
Confío en que llevará a la normalización de las relaciones entre Israel y otros países árabes en la Península Arábiga y el mundo islámico. En los últimos días, ya hemos visto que más países están mostrando su interés y voluntad de unirse.
La Unión Europea en su compromiso con una paz integradora y duradera en la región, debe jugar un papel de liderazgo en este proceso.
Israel y los Emiratos Árabes Unidos son sociedades dinámicas y economías que impulsarán el crecimiento económico de la región, aumentando la innovación tecnológica y forjando relaciones más cercanas entre sus gentes.
